War Not an Option, Keen to Start Talks With Rebels: SL Foreign Minister

Sri Lanka's foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera has told India's minister of state (MOS)for foreign affairs, E Ahmed in New Delhi that the Sri Lankan government did not consider war an option to solve the country's ethnic problem.

He said the sri lankan government was keen to restart stalled talks with the Tamil tiger rebels. This was disclosed at the foreign office briefing in New Delhi today.

" During this meeting, MOS reiterated that military solution is not possible in Sri Lanka and hoped that the Sri Lankan government would move very quickly towards negotiations with LTTE. The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister on his part said that war is not an option for his Government and they are keen to start negotiations. But according to him, the LTTE is providing to be intransigent." the Indian foreign office spokesman said.
