9 August 2006 ( New Delhi)The Indian national security advisor M K Narayanan has said that India will not directly involve itself in the Sri Lankan peace process.
"Our position is that we are not directly involved...there is no such possibility at the moment" he told reporters in Chennai after a meeting with M Karunanidhi, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
Karunanidhi had said before the meeting that the ban imposed by the indian government on the Tamil Tiger rebels, immediately after the assasination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was "debatable."
After the meeting Narayanan clarified that the central government did not have any "doubts" about the ban and that it considered the LTTE a "dangerous" organisation.
During the meeting Narayanan briefed Karunanidhi about the visit of the Sri Lankan foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera and his meetings with various Indian leaders.
