Latest Situation Report from the Sri Lankan Army

Three More LTTE Cadres SurrenderBATTICALOA: THREE LTTE CADRES who deserted ranks in the organization surrendered to the PUNANI Army camp, BATTICALOA Wednesday (16) around 8.15 a.m.. The surrendered LTTE men, at the ages of 18, 19 and 25 years, have run away from the un-cleared areas of east and surrendered to troops seeking protection. On Monday (14), two other LTTE cadres surrendered to the NEELAPOLA Army detachment.
Troops Advance Clearing Mavil Aru AreaTRINCOMALEE: AFTER PROLONGED CONFRONTATIONS with the LTTE terrorists during last few days, troops are now consolidating their positions in MAVIL ARU area. Security Force cleared affected areas and were advancing further towards south east along the Tank bund Tuesday (15) evening. During clearing operations, one soldier sustained injuries due to explosion of an Anti Personnel Mine (APM). Engineer troops defused a large of number of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and AP Mines laid in the area.
Pethalai Police Post Under AttackBATTICALOA : LTTE TERRORISTS fired at the PETHALAI Police Post using small arms Tuesday (15) around 9.10 p.m.. Police personnel retaliated the fire by using small arms. Troops of PETHALAI detachment rushed to the location and conducted a search in the area. Further investigations are conducted by the KALKUDAH Police.
Desperate LTTE Terrorists Kill Three More Civilians In JaffnaJAFFNA: THREE CIVILIANS WERE KILLED by LTTE gunmen on Tuesday (15) at two different locations in JAFFNA. Two civilians were shot dead by LTTE gunmen Tuesday (15) afternoon in KOKUVIL area. The victims have been identified as SINNIAH SIVASANKAR (21) of CHAVAKACHCHARI and PARANKAMAN (23) of KARAVEDDI JAFFNA. Another civilian named S. BASKARAN (47) of No, 555/4, KACHCHERI road JAFFNA was shot dead by an LTTE gunman Tuesday 2006 around 12.35 p.m.. These killings were reported to the SLMM. Meanwhile, terrorists fired artillery, mortar, Rocket Propeller Guns and small arms towards the Security Force Forward Defence Line (FDL) at MUHAMALAI on Tuesday (15) between 0900 a.m. – 0800 p.m.. Troops repulsed the attack. However three soldiers were killed and twenty-five soldiers and two civilians were also injured. Again, three soldiers sustained injuries due to mortar fire by LTTE whilst they were performing duties at NAGARKOVIL the same day around 10.45 p.m. Continuous searches in JAFFNA by troops have led to the recovery of many war like items such as Anti Tank Mines, mortars, claymore mines, Anti Personnel Mines, detonators, battery packs and remote controllers.
