The Cycle Rickshaw Cruise

I ask Ramu to take me through the by lanes of east Delhi on a cycle rickshaw cruise. "That will be 20 rupees for half an hour" Ramu said.

" Alright" I said and hop in.

Dozens of cars with their headlights on top beam come into us from the opposite side of the road. Ramu is left as good as blind for a few seconds.

But Ramu did not stop. He moves even faster.

He waved to another Rickshaw coming from the other direction. It was Dulara from his village.

Abuses a cyclist for riding too close to the Rickshaw. We pass by Hukum Singh selling fish, his employee is cutting the sold fish into small pieces by the roadside.

Hukum singh askes me if I want to buy prawn...he has to sell the pile before the end of the day...there is not much time.

Dozens of live chicken packed into a small metal wire box at a pavement shop, over an open drain. Waiting to be slaughtered...pecking nervously at the earthen pan in front of them.

We go down further and pass a temple, a priest reads from the holy text. Dozens of small earthen lamps glow.
