Agra, Trans-Yamuna
I Cross the river Yamuna on this metal bridge, constructed by the British more than a hundred years ago. To this day, it is the only reliable link across the river.
Rural Agra and the view of the Taj Mahal from across the Yamuna are things most tourists miss.
I met 8 year old Brijesh at a village here. He wants to be a tourist guide when he grows up...and not a farmer like his father.
He goes to a government school in the village. "It is expensive to go to a private English medium school, my father can't afford it. I have learnt Englsh from tourists and am learning French from the boy next door who learns French at the University. I want to be the best guide in Agra when I grow up." He told me.
Brijesh took me to his village and showed me the opening of a tunnel.
It is locked now. Villagers say this tunnel leads to the Taj. There used to be a Durgah of a Sufi saint here. Even today, pleople take off their shoes in reverence when they enter this area.
